Friday night saw the Fenton-Linden Heat playing host to the Swartz Creek Dragons in Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse. Each team posted undefeated 3-0 records in Metro League play, but tonight’s game could possibly give the winning team an edge in capturing the Metro Crown. The Heat opened the scoring at the 4-minute mark, only to see the Dragons tie the game, 1-1 a minute later. The Heat had two 4 goal bursts which were answered by single Swartz Creek goals and the Heat’s lead sat at 9-3 with 1:15 to play in the half. Several draws were won by the Heat and they responded by netting 3 goals before the first half ended at 12-3.
The second half saw the Heat cleaning up their play and working hard to get better. Each team scored 5 more times and the final score was the Heat 17, Dragons 8. Heat Goalkeeper, Lauren Gangwer faced 20 shots and stopped 12 (.600). Gangwer sang praise to the amazing efforts of her defenders, Kyla Lynch, Holly Fijolek, Maggie Cates and Sam Enright. Lara Kemp and Hannah Ludwig played the role of “Playmaker” as the posted assisted on 4 goals. Ludwig won 4 draws, but the Draw Circle was not too kind as the girls went 6/27.
Scoring (Goals/ Assists): Lara Kemp, 6/4; Hannah Ludwig 2/4; Kaitlyn Mossett, 5/0; Jordyn Bliss, 3/0; Daisey Horne, 1/2, Emilee Guertin, 1/0
